The Chicago Bears are officially on the cover of the world’s most iconic football video game. EA Sports announced this week that franchise quarterback Caleb Williams is the official cover athlete for Madden NFL 27, marking the very first time a Chicago Bears player has graced the primary cover. The massive announcement capped off a stellar second season for the young superstar, who successfully led the Bears from worst-to-first in the NFC North and secured their first division title since 2018.
Channeling Michael Jordan
For the standard edition cover, Williams opted to pay homage to another legendary Chicago sports figure. The game art features Williams suspended in mid-air, executing his signature jump pass against the stunning backdrop of the Chicago skyline. Speaking on the New Heights podcast, Williams explained that the striking pose intentionally recreates Michael Jordan’s iconic “Air Jordan” sunrise photo, bringing the legendary Chicago imagery back to life 30 years later on a football field.
The “Iceman” Deluxe Edition
EA Sports is also treating fans to a Deluxe Edition cover that heavily features Williams’ unique on-field personality. The premium cover showcases the quarterback hitting his famous “Iceman” celebration—a move he debuted after throwing a walk-off, 46-yard touchdown pass against the Green Bay Packers last season. Additionally, the artwork prominently highlights Williams’ signature custom nail art, displaying the EA Sports logo painted on his nails to perfectly capture his distinct cultural presence.
Fulfilling a Childhood Dream
Reacting to the massive news, Williams called the honor an absolute “childhood dream come true,” placing the achievement right next to the coolest trophies he owns. He also boldly set his sights on breaking another record, stating his goal is to become the first player ever to appear on the cover in back-to-back years.
