Following a grueling seven-game series against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs are officially heading back to the NBA Finals. Standing on the court at the Paycom Center moments after securing a thrilling 111-103 Game 7 victory, an emotional Victor Wembanyama reflected on the monumental achievement. Upon receiving the Magic Johnson Trophy as the Western Conference Finals MVP, the 22-year-old superstar aggressively shifted the praise to his teammates, celebrated the franchise’s first Finals berth since 2014, and issued a strict directive regarding their upcoming series against the New York Knicks.
Emotional Reflections and Team Praise
Despite averaging a dominant 27.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks throughout the series, Wembanyama refused to take sole credit for dethroning the Thunder. Visibly moved to tears by the moment, the French sensation emphasized how much he loves his teammates, praising crucial Game 7 contributions from role players like Julian Champagnie and Dylan Harper. Wembanyama noted that the Thunder actively threw defensive traps at him, forcing him to find alternative ways to facilitate, ultimately trusting his teammates to hit massive shots down the stretch to seal the victory.
Sights Set on the Knicks
While the Spurs successfully celebrated their Western Conference crown, Wembanyama made it explicitly clear that the job is far from finished. Shouting a passionate “Go Spurs Go” to the traveling fans, he confidently stated, “We want four more. We are not done.” San Antonio now immediately pivots their focus to the New York Knicks, setting up a highly anticipated 2026 rematch of the classic 1999 NBA Finals. With Game 1 slated for Wednesday night at the Frost Bank Center, the Spurs must quickly reset and prepare for a heavily physical Eastern Conference juggernaut.
